How Disputes and Refunds Work

Disputes happen when a shopper and organizer disagree about a transaction. FindA.Sale has a structured process to resolve disputes fairly.

When to open a dispute

Open a dispute if:

  • **Item doesn't match description.** You bought a "Good" condition chair and it arrived with major damage not mentioned.
  • **Item didn't arrive.** You paid for something and the organizer didn't deliver.
  • **Wrong item was sent.** You ordered a blue lamp, received a red one.
  • **Significant misrepresentation.** Photos showed one thing; reality was different.
  • **Price disagreement.** You agreed on a price and they charged something else.

Note: Minor flaws, different personal taste, or "I changed my mind" aren't valid dispute reasons.

How to open a dispute

From your purchase history:

  1. Find the transaction
  2. Tap "Open dispute"
  3. Choose the reason
  4. Upload photos/evidence (if applicable)
  5. Write a detailed explanation
  6. Submit

The organizer is immediately notified.

The dispute timeline

**Review period: 72 hours** Both the shopper and organizer have 72 hours to provide evidence, respond, and try to resolve it together.

**FindA.Sale review: 5–7 business days** If you don't resolve it yourselves, FindA.Sale steps in. We review the evidence:

  • Purchase history
  • Photos from the listing
  • Messages between you
  • Condition notes from the organizer
  • Photos you submitted

**Decision: Final** Once FindA.Sale makes a decision, it's final. No appeals.

Possible outcomes

**Shopper refund (full or partial).** The organizer refunds your money.

**No refund.** The description matched, the organizer fulfilled their obligation, and your complaint isn't valid.

**Replace the item.** The organizer sends you a replacement (rare, usually only for "wrong item" disputes).

**Split decision.** You both shared responsibility. The organizer refunds 50%.

Evidence that helps

**Photographs.** Clear photos of the item showing damage or discrepancies with the description.

**Message history.** Screenshots of conversations where you asked about condition and the organizer made claims.

**Listing screenshots.** Photos of the original listing to prove what was promised.

**Shipping proof.** If mailed, tracking numbers showing delivery.

**Witness.** If someone was with you, their account helps (though FindA.Sale prioritizes objective evidence).

What doesn't help

  • Complaints about personal taste ("I don't like the color")
  • Vague claims without evidence ("It was damaged")
  • Threats or hostile language (disqualifies your case)
  • Claims about items you never received (without shipping proof)

Refund processing

If you win a dispute:

Full refund: Returned to your original payment method within 5–7 business days.

Partial refund: Same timeline, prorated amount.

**What about the item?**

  • If it's a small item (under $20), you usually keep it.
  • If it's large/expensive, the organizer might request return shipping.
  • Organizer covers return shipping for cases where they were at fault.

Organizer perspective

Organizers want to resolve disputes quickly too. Most disputes are resolved in the first 72 hours because:

  • A refund is cheaper than a lengthy dispute
  • Reputation damage from disputes is significant
  • Many disputes are genuine misunderstandings (fixable with good communication)

If an organizer ignores your dispute or is uncooperative, FindA.Sale sides with the shopper.

Patterns of disputes

If an organizer gets 3+ disputes in a month, FindA.Sale flags them. Repeated disputes result in warnings, reduced listing privileges, or removal from the platform.

If a shopper opens 5+ disputes in a month, we check if they're serial abusers. Serial disputers face account restrictions.

Preventing disputes in the first place

For shoppers:

  • Ask detailed questions before buying
  • Request photos if the listing ones aren't clear
  • Read condition notes carefully
  • Buy from high-reputation organizers

For organizers:

  • Be brutally honest in descriptions
  • Photograph damage and wear
  • Respond to questions quickly and truthfully
  • Disclose all flaws upfront

Prevention is better than disputes.

Dispute fees

There are no dispute fees for either party. FindA.Sale absorbs the cost of dispute resolution.

International disputes

If you're buying from or selling to someone in a different country, disputes become complex (shipping, customs, currency, jurisdiction). FindA.Sale supports these but resolution takes longer.

Escalation

If you believe FindA.Sale made an unfair decision, you can request a review. Include new evidence or context we missed. We'll re-examine, but this rarely changes the outcome.
