Manage Holds: Approve, Extend, Cancel
Shoppers can place holds on items they're interested in. As the organizer, you review each hold request, approve or deny it, and decide how long the hold window lasts. Here's how it works and what happens when a hold expires.
How it works
- **See incoming holds.** On the Holds tab in your organizer dashboard, you'll see a list of all hold requests from shoppers — buyer name, item name, how long the hold is requested for, and the request date.
- **Approve or deny.** For each hold, tap **Approve** or **Deny**. Approved holds appear on the shopper's "My Holds" list and remind them to pick up or pay by the expiration date. Denied holds disappear from their view.
- **Extend a hold.** If a shopper asks for more time, click **Extend** on the hold row. Choose how many additional days. The expiration date updates immediately, and the shopper gets a notification.
- **Holds expire automatically.** When the hold window closes, the item returns to available for sale. If the shopper hasn't picked it up or paid by then, it's back on the market.
- **Cancel if needed.** If a shopper says they can't make it or you need to free up the item, tap **Cancel**. The hold disappears and the shopper is notified.
Common questions
How long should I make a hold window?
Most organizers use 3–7 days. Shorter windows (3 days) work for busy sales where items move fast. Longer windows (5–7 days) are helpful if shoppers are traveling in for a big purchase.
What if a shopper doesn't pick up before the hold expires?
The item goes back into your active inventory automatically. If they show up after the hold window and still want it, you can re-approve if it hasn't sold.
Can a shopper extend their own hold?
No — they can request an extension from the holds page, but you have to approve it. This keeps you in control of your inventory.
Does approving a hold remove the item from the public listings?
No. The item stays visible to other shoppers, but approved holds are flagged so interested buyers know someone else is considering it.
Can I approve a hold retroactively?
Yes. If a shopper visited the sale and verbally said they want to hold an item, you can add and approve a hold manually from your dashboard.
What's the difference between denying and canceling a hold?
Denying happens when you reject an incoming request. Canceling is when you end a hold that was already approved — useful if the shopper can't make it or the item sells.
