Bounties: Get Paid to Find Items for Other Shoppers

All guides

A bounty is a request from another shopper asking you to find a specific item. If you find it at a sale, you claim the bounty, deliver the item, and get paid. It's shopping for money.

How bounties work

The basic flow:

  1. **Someone posts a bounty.** A shopper says "I'm looking for a vintage Chemex coffee maker in good condition. Willing to pay up to $80."
  1. **You see the bounty.** The bounty appears in your feed with a photo (if they have one), description, condition requirements, and price limit.
  1. **You find it.** While hunting a yard sale or flea market, you spot the exact item.
  1. **You claim the bounty.** Take a photo, message the bounty poster with the location and sale info.
  1. **Negotiation (optional).** You ask $75, they say yes. Or you haggle. Price doesn't have to be final until you deliver.
  1. **You buy it.** Using your own money at the sale.
  1. **You deliver.** You set up a meetup or they ship it. Payment is processed through FindA.Sale (they're protected, you're protected).
  1. **You get paid + XP.** You earn 50 XP for completing the bounty, plus whatever payment you negotiated.

Types of bounties

Item bounties: "Find me a 1970s floor lamp" or "Looking for a leather briefcase, brown or black, $50 max."

Condition bounties: "Vintage Pyrex, but no cracks or chips. Willing to pay $20–30 depending on rarity."

Category bounties: "Any vintage kitchen gadget under $10. Will buy multiple."

Rare item bounties: "Searching for a specific signed first edition. $200 budget."

Most bounties are straightforward — one item, clear description, price limit.

Finding bounties

Bounties tab: Go to Bounties in the main nav. You'll see active bounties in your area. Filter by:

  • Item type (furniture, decor, collectibles, etc.)
  • Price range
  • Difficulty (easy bounties = common items, hard bounties = rare finds)
  • Distance (how far the bounty poster is willing to meet you)

Bounty notifications: When someone posts a bounty matching your interests (based on your wishlist or past hunts), you get a notification.

Crew bounties: Your crew members can post bounties just for the crew. These are first-come, first-served within the group.

Claiming a bounty

When you find the item:

  1. **Take a clear photo** showing the item, condition, any damage or markings.
  2. **Note the location** — sale name, address, whether it's still there.
  3. **Send the bounty message** with: photo, location, estimated price, and your asking price.
  4. **Wait for response.** The bounty poster can approve, negotiate, or pass. If they approve, you're locked in.

Once approved, you have 24 hours to buy the item and confirm. If you can't get it within 24 hours (it sold, you ran out of time), you can release the bounty and they'll find another finder.

Payment and delivery

Payment options:

  • **In-person pickup.** You meet the bounty poster in a safe public place (Starbucks, parking lot, whoever). They pay you in cash or Venmo. FindA.Sale protects both of you with buyer/seller ratings.
  • **Shipping.** They pay for shipping upfront. You pack and send. Payment is released when they confirm delivery.
  • **FindA.Sale escrow.** If it's a high-value bounty, FindA.Sale holds the payment until delivery is confirmed.

Disputes:

If there's a problem (item arrived damaged, doesn't match description, payment didn't come through), both parties can open a dispute. FindA.Sale reviews the evidence and makes a decision. Most disputes are resolved within 48 hours.

What bounties are good for

You want cash: Bounties pay real money for finds you're already making. If you're hunting anyway and spot something someone's been looking for, why not get paid?

You earn XP: 50 XP per completed bounty is solid.

You help shoppers: Someone's been searching 6 months for a specific chair. You find it for them. They're grateful.

You discover sales: Looking for bounties might send you to sales you've never been to before.

Safety and trust

**Bounty posters are rated.** Just like organizers, bounty posters have reputation scores. Look for posters with good ratings and positive feedback.

**FindA.Sale holds the money.** For digital transactions, FindA.Sale acts as intermediary. They hold the payment until you confirm delivery. This protects both of you.

**Meet safely.** If meeting in person, choose a public place. Daytime. Tell a friend where you're going.

**Document everything.** Take photos before, during, and after delivery. This protects you if there's a dispute.

Bounty etiquette

**Be honest about condition.** If the item has flaws, mention them in your claim message. "Slight water ring on top, but structurally sound" beats surprising them with damage.

**Respond quickly.** If someone approves your bounty, buy it within the 24-hour window. Don't ghost.

**Price fairly.** If you find something they asked for at $50 and wanted to pay $60, don't demand $90. The goal is mutual benefit.

**No poaching.** If a friend is hunting a bounty and you spot the item, let them know first before claiming it.
