All guides

Followers are shoppers who've saved your sale or signed up to hear from you. Send them targeted updates during your sale to keep interest high and drive foot traffic. Updates can announce new items, flash sales, extended hours, or final-day urgency.

When to send updates

Before the sale:

  • "Sale starts tomorrow! We're open 8 AM–5 PM Saturday."
  • "New furniture just added to the online catalog — check it out before you come in."

During the sale (if it's multi-day):

  • "We're open today until 3 PM. 30% off everything in the kitchen section."
  • "Just priced 50+ new items. Everything from vintage lamps to office furniture."
  • "Rain or shine — we're open for 2 more hours! Last chance for Saturday deals."

Final day / Last few hours:

  • "Final day! Everything half-off starting at 2 PM."
  • "Just 4 hours left. All clothing now $2 each. Don't miss out."

After the sale (builds reputation for next time):

  • "Thanks for stopping by! We sold out of furniture. See you next month."
  • "Huge success — thanks to everyone who came. Next estate sale announcement coming soon."

What to write

**Keep it short.** Followers scroll fast. One or two sentences max, plus a call-to-action.

**Lead with the news.** "30% off this afternoon" is better than "We hope you're having a great day at our sale!"

**Be specific.** "Everything is 50% off" is stronger than "Great deals today."

**Use urgency strategically.** "4 hours left" or "Final day" works for last-minute pushes. Overuse urgency and people tune it out.

**Avoid marketing jargon.** Skip "seamless shopping experience" or "amazing deals." Write like you're talking to a neighbor: "Lots of great furniture at fair prices. Come check it out."

**Include one clear action.** "See directions," "Browse online," "We're open till 5 PM" — give them one reason to engage now.

Examples

Opening day: "We're open NOW until 5 PM! Furniture, kitchen items, and tons of vintage finds. Address: [address]. First come, first served."

Mid-sale flash deal: "Surprise: Everything in the back bedroom is now 40% off. Don't miss it — sale ends at 3 PM today."

Second day / Extended sale: "You asked — we're staying open Sunday! Same time (8 AM–5 PM), same great deals. Can't wait to see you."

Final-day urgency: "Last chance today. We're open until 4 PM and everything's discounted. Don't wait."

Post-sale thank you: "Sold out! Thanks for making this estate sale a huge success. Next sale announcement in 2 weeks."

How to send updates

**Step 1: Open Send Updates.**

In your organizer dashboard, click **Followers** or **Manage Sale** → **Send Update**.

**Step 2: Write your message.**

Type your update. Preview how it looks. Keep it to 100–150 words.

**Step 3: Choose who to send to.**

  • **All followers:** Everyone who's saved your sale.
  • **First-time shoppers:** People visiting for the first time.
  • **Returning shoppers:** People who've bought from you before.
  • **Specific segment:** Based on interests, price range, or category preference (if available).

**Step 4: Pick a time.**

  • **Send now:** Immediate.
  • **Schedule:** Pick a date and time. Useful for "final-day" messages — schedule for the morning of.

**Step 5: Send.**

Review one more time, then send.

Frequency and timing

**How often?** 2–3 updates for a single-day sale is too much. 1 update (opening or mid-sale flash deal) is perfect. For a 3-day sale, send 1–2 updates per day max.

Best times: Early morning (8 AM before work) and early afternoon (1 PM during lunch break) get the most engagement. Avoid late evening.

**Don't spam.** Followers unsubscribe if they get too many messages. Every update should have a real reason (sale timing, special offer, or closing reminder).

Personalizing updates

If your followers list is segmented:

  • **Price-sensitive shoppers:** Emphasize discounts. "Everything 30% off today."
  • **Category-focused shoppers:** Highlight relevant items. "New furniture added — check the dining room section online."
  • **Regular buyers:** Appreciate them. "Thanks for shopping with us regularly! Early-bird pricing for you tomorrow morning."

Common questions

Will followers opt-in to receive updates?

Yes. Followers explicitly choose to hear from you. You're not spamming; you're reaching engaged shoppers.

What if I don't have followers yet?

First sale? You'll build followers as shoppers find you. Mention on flyers or in person: "Follow us to hear about future sales." After the first sale, you'll have a list.

Can I send updates on social media instead?

Yes, but follower updates are more direct. An email or in-app notification is more likely to drive action than a social media post that gets buried.

What if my sale goes amazingly and I want to extend?

Send an update ASAP. "We're staying open Sunday! Can't believe how much inventory we still have." People plan their weekends — giving notice matters.

Should I offer a special discount code with updates?

Only if you really need to drive traffic. A unique code (e.g., "SUNDAY-20") makes followers feel special. But overuse cheapens your brand.

Can I ask followers to share the sale?

Sure, but keep it light. "Know someone who loves vintage furniture? Share this sale!" is fine. But your main message should always be about *their* benefit, not asking them to promote.

What if no one reads my updates?

That's okay. Followers who didn't read might still come across the sale via flyers, social media, or word-of-mouth. Updates are just one touch point.

Should I send different messages to different follower types?

If your platform lets you segment (e.g., "furniture shoppers" vs. "jewelry shoppers"), yes. Tailor to interests. If not, a general update works fine.
