All guides

Have a dining chair you don't love? See a lamp at a consignment shop you do? Skip the cash and propose a trade. Both of you get what you want without paying.

How it works

  1. **Open Trades** — Tap your profile > Trades, or navigate to the Trades section.
  2. **See available items** — You'll see items from other shoppers that are listed as "available for trade." Browse by category or search.
  3. **Propose a trade** — Tap an item and propose what you're willing to trade for it. You can upload a photo of your item (existing sale inventory or something from your home).
  4. **Wait for response** — The other shopper gets a notification and can accept, decline, or counter-offer (suggest a different item of yours).
  5. **Agree on details** — Once both agree, message each other to set a pickup time and location (your home, a sale location, or a safe public spot).
  6. **Exchange** — Meet up and swap. No money changes hands, just items.
  7. **Mark complete** — Once you've both received your items, mark the trade as complete in the app.

What you can trade

You can trade items from:

  • **Your active sale listings** — If you're an organizer selling items, shoppers can propose trades.
  • **Items you've bought** — If you bought something at a sale and want to get rid of it, add it to your trade inventory.
  • **Items from home** — Anything you own. Take a photo and upload it.

Tips for successful trades

**Be clear about condition** — Photos should show any wear, damage, or cosmetic issues. The more honest you are, the fewer disputes later.

**Suggest a fair swap** — A $50 item for a $50 item is fair. A $100 item for a $10 item usually gets declined.

**Pick a safe meeting spot** — A sale location, a public parking lot, or daytime at home. Trust your gut.

**Communicate fast** — Don't ghost. If you're no longer interested, say so. If you want to counter-offer, respond within 24 hours.

**Leave feedback** — After the trade, leave a comment about the other person. Were they on time? Was the item as described? It builds trust.

Common questions

What if the trade falls through at the last minute?

Message the other person and let them know. If you had agreed on a specific time and location, a heads-up matters. You can report the user if they consistently flake, but most people are reasonable.

Do I have to trade in person?

Yes, currently trades are in-person only. The app doesn't handle shipping. You arrange a time and place with the other shopper.

What if I want to back out of a trade?

If the other person hasn't accepted yet, you can cancel. If they accepted and you want to back out, message them—they might understand, but it could hurt your reputation.

Can I trade with someone outside my area?

Not easily, since trades are in-person. You'd have to arrange shipping on your own, which defeats the purpose. Stick to local trades.

What if I trade something and it breaks within a week?

That's why photos matter. If you traded something misrepresented, reach out to the other person. Most will make it right. If not, you can report the issue to FindA.Sale support.

Can I trade multiple items for one item?

Yes. Propose a bundle: "I'll trade you my chair, side table, and lamp for your dresser." The other person can accept, decline, or counter.

Is there a time limit on trades?

You can propose a trade whenever, but both people have 7 days to arrange a meetup. If neither confirms a time by day 7, the trade expires.

Can I see other shoppers' trade history?

You can see their feedback and how many successful trades they've completed, but not the specific items.
